Home Delivery: The New Way to Shop Local

Home delivery. The convenient new way to shop local and support local businesses.

With farmers markets open on the weekends; and farm stores open during the week for purchases of produce and product. I thought it would be fun to explore some additional ways for all of us to shop local.

“Delivered to your Door” and “Contactless Delivery” are the new buzz words of the day, as companies continue to pivot and make life easier and a bit less stressful for us all.

Home Delivery As seen on TV

Always a pleasure to appear on Charlotte Today with my friend Colleen Odegaard to chat about local restaurants, product and more. A couple of weeks ago, we “Zoomed” an interview featuring five great products folks in and around Charlotte can get delivered to their door. You can watch it here and then, come back to read on for all the details and more ways to enjoy the ease of home delivery.

Fresh List Clt

Jesse Ledbetter and his team have been quietly growing their farmer and local food artisan to chef delivery service in Charlotte for several years now.

Order online at the Fresh List website by Tuesday of each week. All of the product they carry is from local and area farms, so the line up changes from week to week. Mocha Milk from The Table in Asheboro NC. Photo courtesy of The Table (While you can’t order this stunning beverage for home delivery, you can order mugs, granola, teas and apparel from The Table online)

I know I can’t wait to order the Homeland Creamery Chocolate Milk ( and probably their delicious whole milk, too in my next Fresh List order.) so I can try to recreate this “Mocha Milk” created by the barista’s at The Table Farm Bakery in Asheboro, NC, one of my favorite places to visit in The Heart of North Carolina (read more here.) Until I can go back, my recreation of the memory of this cold and satisfying iced coffee will just have to do!) Stay tuned for the delicious details…

Speaking of milk…

Farm To Home in Asheville, NC

Yes, there really is a milkman that still makes home delivery and we in Charlotte are fortunate that Farm to Home has just expanded their Asheville-based home delivery service.

The milk delivered by Farm to Home comes from two small family owned dairies: Maple View and Wholesome Country Creamery. At both of these dairies, the milk is processed minimally and bottled on each individual farm. In most cases Farm to Home delivers the milk and butter from these farms the day after it is bottled.

As they have expanded their circle of home delivery, they have also expanded their line of products, including several local brands I love and have often shared with my readers. The selection includes Hickory Nut Gap meats, Roots Hummus, Lusty Monk Mustards, Duke’s Bread from right here in Charlotte and one of my new favorites, Fermenti Kim Chi and Sauerkraut ( just wait till you try their sauerkraut in this Smiling Hara Hempeh Reuben!)

Order online by Monday each week for Thursday delivery. In Charlotte, orders must meet a $25 minimum.

The Loyalist

Cheesy Does It! The team at The Loyalist has been very busy the past several months, starting a privately funded by the public, local chef-driven initiative to feed hungry school kids; offering take out and now home delivery Tuesday – Saturday from noon to 7 pm!

Cheese and Charcuterie Tray, photo courtesy of The Loyalist

Home Delivery is FREE with a $25 minimum order, if you live within a 12 mile radius of the Matthews NC shop. If you live 13 miles away, then they aren’t ready for you yet, but stay tuned. They are employing staff to make deliveries as a way to continue to take care of their own. With one driver, they plan on 3 deliveries an hour, so plan ahead and don’t wait till the last minute to place your online order.

All deliveries – which can include, sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, but several sides, must be ordered via The Loyalist website’s online ordering portal, which you will find here.

It’s a Coffee Collab – Help Share the Love

I am loving this local collaborative effort between Enderly Coffee, Nightflyer Roastworks, and Pure Intentions Coffee – three local roasters in Charlotte. Each one a third of this “Charlotte Coffee Box” providing a taste of single origin coffees representing each roaster’s personality.

The creation of this collaboration is a response to the impact on small businesses from the COVID-19 mandated shut down. Enderly, Nightflyer, and Pure Intentions wanted to come together and use this project to help illustrate that working together, we can all get through and happily on the other side of this trying time.

Included in the three pack: Enderly Coffee Nicaragua from growers Sabino & Maria Jesus; Nightflyer Roastworks Ethiopia from Yirgacheffe Kebelo Dumerso; and Pure Intentions Colombia from Gonazalo Dagua Conda.

Each roaster has provided a coffee to this effort that is representative of their quality efforts and compliments the other offerings in the box. A range of African, Central and South American coffees offer you the chance to experience a wide spectrum of flavors each with the unique fingerprint of that roaster.

The cost is $42. FREE Home Delivery is available for Charlotte-area locations. Deliveries are made each Friday. Or, if you are out of town, or outside the delivery area, you may opt to take advantage of the USPS Priority 2-day shipping that is available. Go here to order.
