Heidi’s Private Cooking Classes & Team Building

cooking clip artThe What….

A private class at your home kitchen or in mine is a fabulous way to entertain friends, family, celebrate birthdays; and a great way get to know your co-workers better – plus we have a blast – so you’ll be the host or hostess with the mostess for putting it all together!

The Where….

proffitt class 9-7-13 010As you may know, I teach my regular series of cooking classes in my home kitchen and teach many private classes there, as well. I also travel to clients homes and offices to teach. If a large space is needed or you’d like to add another dimension to the class, I work with area farms as a location for a private class or team building events and I have access to several kitchen showrooms here in town – all are possible locations – based on availability, for your private cooking classes.

The Why….

cooking class for Samantha Foreman - March 2011 010In a 2 1/2 hour time frame we can do four to five different courses, each centered around one theme.  These classes are hands-on, but if guests would rather just sit back, visit and watch others cook, that’s fine with me too. My goal is to give you a fun and relaxing evening, morning or afternoon with friends; an alternative to golf, a dinner out or some sort of risk taking outdoor adventure.

The What Will We Cook…

As it is your class, you select the topic, but if you need some ideas and inspiration, a few of my most popular topics  are Food and wine of France, Food and wine of Italy, Food and Wine of Spain, Food and Wine of (your favorite place to be),  Hors d’oeuvres and Appetizers, Farm to Fork Dining, Easy But Elegant Dinner Party, etc  – truth is, we can center the class around any topic or type of cuisine that you and your group enjoy.

The How Does It Work…..

At  private cooking classes, we kick things off with an appetizer and an aperitif upon arrival and then we taste/eat each course as we cook and as things are ready and we pair a wine with each course. With a private class, just like a private party, you have the option of adding on party favors, giveaways and gift bags and you may also opt to extend the “upon arrival eats” to a  a 30-45 min “meet and greet” with a couple of light hors d’oeuvres before the  class starts.

These two friends loved the Vodka pie crust when they planned their own Apple of Your Pie cooking class

Generally people come to these classes directly from work and this will give your group a chance to unwind a bit before we settle into class. For businesses, an evening of this sort is a wonderful way to get to know another side of your colleagues and identify with them on another level

The How Much Does it Cost….

The cost for one of my private classes or team building events is  based on a base fee plus the cost of groceries/supplies. The base fee is determined by our location and the number of guests in your group. With almost all of my private classes we start with an appetizer and aperitif upon arrival, then we prepare 4-5 different dishes around a central theme and, as I do in my regular series of classes, I work with Assorted Table Wine Shop at 7th Street Station in Uptown Charlotte  to  provide with pairings  with each dish if you would like. At the end of each class, I also hand out a variety of  party favors including coupons to several local culinary shops, and a packet of detailed recipes as well as wine notes to each class participant.
