Meet Heidi Billotto


Allow me to introduce myself. I am Heidi Billotto…

It’s great to meet you!  I am Heidi Billotto, a Charlotte, NC-based culinary expert writing about food and restaurants for regional magazines, newspapers, blogs & websites since the early 1980s!  In that time I’ve seen & been a part of a lot of change & a great deal of  growth in culinary circles  across the Carolinas and have loved every minute. Nothing like telling the story….

I blog regularly on these pages  sharing recipes, and the all-you-want-to-know about  farmers and chefs across the Carolinas; restaurants, and food-centric travel. I  also preach the gospel of how easy it is to Eat and Drink Local no matter where you are or where you live.


Heidi Billotto with cookwareWhen I’m not blogging, I write and edit the culinary offerings for the quarterly publication, Charlotte Living magazine. I also makes regular appearances on several Charlotte television stations sharing tips in monthly cooking segments, 3-day weekend travel segments and a monthly restaurant roundups.

Between columns, television & personal appearances,  I enjoy free lance work as  food stylist for many national chefs and cookbook authors visiting North and South Carolina; and I teach a regular schedule of  cooking classes both in my home kitchen & on local farms. Heidi Billotto CooksIn addition, to my regular schedule of cooking classes, I also conducts private in-home or office cooking classes for corporate team building & social gatherings. my focus is on seasonal food & locally raised, grown, caught or made proteins, produce and products; and often, but not always, organic alternatives.


FullSizeRender 10Over the years I’ve had the honor and pleasure to interview a number of internationally known chefs, cookbook authors  and food and wine centric folk, among them Chef Paul Bocuse, Chef Wolfgang Puck, Chef Mario Batali, and the incomparable Julia Child.

I’ve been a judge for the coveted James Beard Awards, the voice of social media for a statewide competition dining series, the host of many a cooking stage and have parlayed my love for cooking  to develop a small but successful catering business.


I publish an email newsletter with info about cooking classes and links back to this blog at, Charlotte restaurants, food happenings and more.

I am married to the very talented and  well-known Charlotte NC-based musician, Tom Billotto.  We often work together providing “food and mood” at private parties and corporate events. A classically trained musician, Tom provides the mood with guitar and vocals while I handle all of you catering needs from soup to nuts. One of the things I love about what I do is that I am involved in something different everyday, from planting a kitchen garden to checking out the newest seasonal menus at area restaurants; from teaching a cooking class to discovering a new flea markets in the search for cool service ware for upcoming catering jobs; from weekly trips to area farmers’ markets to sitting in on a wine tasting – I love it all!



I also work representing and promoting many local and national companies and brands I believe in  as a spokesperson,  on stage, on television and in print.  I am always delighted to tell the story!
